Rose Brooks Center Recognizes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time for all of us to learn about domestic violence, celebrate the thousands of women and children who have overcome abuse, support the thousands more who continue to live in fear, and honor the many women who have lost their lives to this horrific crime. Rose Brooks Center will host activities and events throughout the month to create awareness and raise the community consciousness about intimate partner violence.

Rose Brooks Center is the leader in innovative domestic violence programs and support. We believe the destructive cycle of abuse can only be broken by offering a full continuum of care including prevention programming, crisis intervention, life skills development, and other supportive and therapeutic services. This comprehensive spectrum of programs and services is what sets Rose Brooks Center apart from other domestic violence agencies.

But these essential services are being threatened. Last year alone, 9,000 Missouri women and children were unable to find shelter at a domestic violence program due to lack of resources according to the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
“It’s more vital than ever that we raise awareness of domestic violence. The need for services continues to increase – and Rose Brooks Center, along with the other DV agencies in the area, are in desperate need of additional resources to ensure help is available to all who need it,” said Susan Miller, Rose Brooks Center CEO.

The community can support the vital work and services of Rose Brooks Center throughout the month by participating in local events and activities. Among these activities are a month-long, online “friend drive”, various rallies throughout the metro area, and participation in Beauty Brands’ “End Abuse” campaign. {For a complete list of activities and events, please see attached calendar}
