An online blog for those helping to break the cycle of domestic violence

Category: Emergency Shelter

When survivors come to Rose Brooks Center, they begin to dream about their futures. What they learn along the way is that they deserve a life free from abuse — one that is bright with safety, possibility, and happiness.
Emergency shelter services for survivors of domestic violence are imperative for protection, providing adults and children with a highly secure temporary home, allowing them to heal.
Feedback from the individuals receiving services at Rose Brooks Center is incredibly important to the work we do and the quality of the services we provide.
In 1998, Rose Brooks Center staff established a Diversity Connections Committee to address the unique needs of clients from diverse backgrounds.
Rose Brooks Center’s ability to serve hot and nutritious meals is a vital component of the agency’s overall services. We are grateful for the many volunteers, community partners, local businesses, and foundations for supporting this element of care.
As a response to COVID, Rose Brooks Center’s emergency shelter now has fully private spaces, including private bathrooms, and other amenities.
For domestic violence survivors who are also experiencing trauma, feeling safe is very important. Safety affords our bodies and minds the ability to heal.
Not unlike others who have a created a vision board to help maintain focus on a goal, Rose Brooks Center uses a vision statement to lead the efforts of our program work.
Most of us can relate to that very particular feeling of dread when the power goes out. You instinctively reach for candles, or comfort your children as you prepare for your new reality.
One of Rose Brooks Center’s agency strategic goals is to improve quality in policy and practice. To that end, emergency shelter management has been hosting “open door” sessions, allowing shelter residents to share. . .
