An online blog for those helping to break the cycle of domestic violence

Category: Pet Shelter

In 2023, Rose Brooks Center’s Bridge Program™ celebrated 25 years. This hospital-based program is credited with initiating the screening question: “Do you feel safe at home?”
One of the many barriers families face in making the difficult and often dangerous decision to escape their abuser is fear for the safety of their pets.
Since opening in 2012, Rose Brooks' pet program has protected approximately 75 pets per year, providing over 2,900 nights of safety annually.
With the recent renovation, survivors now have the option to keep their pets in their rooms -- allowing them to heal together.
Many of you may remember their heroic story of love, triumph over abuse, and finding safety at Rose Brooks Center. In 2011, McKenzie was brought to Rose Brooks by the police, after her abuser had brutally beaten her.
