Domestic Violence Awareness Month – Your Voice Matters
Rose Brooks Center Recognizes October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and wants you to know that Your Voice Matters.

Kansas City, Mo, October 1, 2024 – October welcomes national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. One in four women and one in seven men will be victims of domestic violence at some point in their lifetime, and on average, three women are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. This is the very reason we all must amplify our voices to reach more victims and survivors of domestic violence. Your voice matters.

Domestic violence impacts millions of people each year, but it can be prevented through education, community and individual awareness, and prevention efforts. It requires the collective voice and power of an entire community and systems – each reminding victims and survivors, “you are not alone.”

Rose Brooks Center served more than 15,000 victims of violence last year alone. This included 11,988 individuals calling the crisis hotline, 1,875 youth receiving support from school-based prevention specialists, and more throughout the community and in emergency shelter. See all of our service numbers at https://rosebrooks.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Spring-2023-Annual-Report_updated.pdf

During October, communities across the country will not only mourn for those whose lives were taken by domestic violence, but celebrate the tremendous progress victim advocates and services have made over the years. Lisa Fleming, Rose Brooks Center’s CEO, offers an easy way to join Rose Brooks Center, “Please follow us on social media to unite with a national effort to raise awareness and uplift the needs and experiences of survivors. In particular, we want you to join us in raising your voice so that all survivors and their children know Rose Brooks is here and that you are an ally. . . and because we know your voice matters.”
