An online blog for those helping to break the cycle of domestic violence

Message From the CEO – Summer 2024

Lisa Fleming

Dear Friends,

This year marks another meaningful milestone – 45 years of providing emergency shelter. Although Rose Brooks Center was established in 1978, it was just one year later that our first shelter opened with 19 beds for adults and children.

Because of the legacy of Rosa “Rose” Brooks, and her family who gifted Rose’s home, we were able to open our first shelter after a year of providing a lifeline of support to the community through a 24-hour hotline. One of the most significant details of our opening, was that within 24-hours all 19 beds were full. This need for emergency services continues to this day.

Through the years we have continued to develop and create survivor-centered programs. For those of you who know us, you understand that we are much more than a shelter. . . we are an agency extending far beyond our walls and into the community to help create a systems change approach to working with and supporting survivors of domestic violence. We do this so that no matter where a victim or survivor may be, they can access safety and care. We do this because we want survivors to know they are not alone. We want them, and you, to know that Rose Brooks is here.

Today, we continue to be a lifeline throughout the region and beyond because of the kindness of those who believe in and support our mission.

With sincere gratitude,

Lisa Fleming, CEO
