Bridge Advocate

Kansas City, MO. The full-time Bridge Advocate provides direct service activities including safety planning, assistance accessing shelter and other community resources, assistance filing victims’ compensation and emergency orders of protection, and follow up contacts. Provides data control for grant compliance and reporting requirements specific to the role. Supports volunteer advocates through scheduling and communications. This position supports the mission and values of the agency, collaborates across program teams within the agency, as well as systems and persons outside the agency. Required Skills/Experience:
  • One year experience in hospital/healthcare environment
  • Experience in providing domestic violence advocacy highly preferred
  • Strong computer skills (MS office, database system, and other software)
  • Ability to provide services according to Rose Brooks Center’s values, beliefs, and philosophies centered on principles of trauma informed care, accessibility, and equity and inclusion
  • Proven ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including written communication
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation
  • Due to specific hospital requirements, candidate must be able to provide proof of immunizations or be able to obtain a blood test to verify immunization. This also includes an annual flu shot with verification.

Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish (requires ability to read, write, and speak)
  • Knowledge of relevant community resources
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care and dynamics of domestic violence
Physical and Mental Demands/Working Conditions –

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to the waist, push, pull, lift, bend, climb, reach, sit, walk and stand
  • Ability to transport (drive) residents on occasion

  • Ability to use standard cleaning supplies
  • Exposure to virus and other contagious diseases within shelter
  • Exposure to other’s trauma
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for effects of trauma exposure to reduce negative impact on self and others
  • Ability to work in a high intensity/fast paced work environment, being able to multi-task and prioritize
WORK HOURS: This is a full time, exempt position and requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. The Bridge Advocate works in an office, hospital, and clinic environment and requires limited local travel. This position is primarily scheduled Monday through Friday days, and requires flexible hours including evening and weekends and participation in the on-call rotation. Must be able to be onsite within 30 minutes of a dispatch call (daytime on-call).
COMPENSATION: This position falls into a non-exempt range starting at an hourly rate of $19 (with an additional shift differential of 5% from 7p to 7a and all-day Saturday/Sunday).
